Apple’s M4 Pro chip has just made its first appearance on Geek bench, and the performance results are generating excitement among tech enthusiasts. The newly released M4 Pro, found in Apple’s latest 16-inch MacBook Pro, demonstrates a substantial boost in both CPU and GPU capabilities compared to its predecessor, the M3 Pro, marking a significant step up in Apple’s silicon development.

Impressive CPU Performance Gains

This M4 Pro variant, which features a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, scored an impressive 3,925 in single-core and 22,669 in multi-core Geekbench tests. This marks a 25% improvement in single-core performance and an astonishing 46% boost in multi-core results compared to the Apple M3 Pro, which scored 3,138 (single-core) and 15,480 (multi-core). The increased core count on the M4 Pro certainly contributes to its multi-core prowess, but the noticeable uplift in single-core speed, likely due to the higher 4.51 GHz boost clock (compared to the M3 Pro’s 4.06 GHz), indicates further efficiency and processing power.

M4 Pro’s GPU Surpasses Expectations

In terms of graphics capabilities, Geekbench’s OpenCL benchmark for the M4 Pro’s 20-core GPU recorded a score of 69,867. This is a 38% jump over the M3 Pro’s 50,373. While the M4 Pro doesn’t quite reach the performance of the M3 Max’s 40-core GPU (which scored 91,413), it still achieves nearly 70% of the performance with half the GPU cores, a testament to Apple’s advancements in GPU optimization.
